The
name of Plunkett Park has a dual significance. One of
our patrons was a mighty figure in the history of the
Catholic Church in Ireland of almost three hundred years
ago (St. Oliver Plunkett); the other, a valiant, quiet
man who died a soldier's death in Ireland's most deathless
struggle but a generation ago (Joseph Mary Plunkett).
Both bore the same family name and were related by blood.
Both won a martyr's crown from minions of the same adversary,
the one for the Faith, the other for the Motherland.
